Prototyping low-code apps, automations & M365 integrations in a free sandbox

Most people think you need to swipe a corporate credit card to learn Microsoft's tech stack. You do not. The developer program is fully active as of April 2026, and you just need to know where to look.

Stop paying out of pocket to test your Power Apps ideas. Microsoft quietly offers a free instant sandbox that gives you the keys to the kingdom. No trial limits. No hidden fees.

You get a fully loaded tenant with 25 user licenses for exactly zero dollars. That includes one admin account and 24 test users. It gives you 90 days of access, and it automatically renews as long as you keep developing.

Here is exactly how to set it up in under five minutes.

Part 1: Join the Microsoft 365 Developer Program

Step 1: Go directly to the Developer Program – Microsoft 365 page.

Part 2: Set up your Microsoft 365 Subscription

Step 7: A dialog box will prompt you to set up your developer subscription. Create a username and a unique domain. Do not use spaces. This becomes your global administrator account.

Step 8: Type in a strong password and confirm it.

Step 9: Click Set up. You will likely need to pass a captcha to prove you are human. Complete that step and click Verify. The system will generate your profile page with your new subscription name and expiration date.

The core tenant provisions instantly. Background services like SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive take a few hours to fully activate. Be patient.

Once the dust settles, navigate over to make.powerapps.com or make.powerautomate.com and start building.

Need a structured path? Go to Collab365 Spaces to find training that helps you master in 2 hours what takes most people weeks.

Do the boring work. Build the apps. The tools are free. The execution is on you.
